The leading autism association in Israel, operating for over 50 years for all people on the autistic spectrum and their families. We create and promote a respectful and inclusive lifestyle and serve children, adults and families from the moment of diagnosis throughout their lives to help them reach their full potential while promoting and protecting their rights.
Alut was founded in 1974, as a parents’ association, out of deep distress on the part of families of children diagnosed with autism. The parents realized they were lacking dedicated institutions to care for children on the autistic spectrum; the therapeutic schools or hostels in Israel for people with special needs did not meet the needs of their children and were unable to fulfill the special need of children young and adult on the spectrum.
The main housing solution that the state offered in those years, both to children and adults on the spectrum was a care in closed wards for the mentally ill, which from the start doomed their kids life without hope or positive environment.
